Churchill Scholarships offer American students of exceptional ability, enrolled at one of the institutions participating in the program, the opportunity to pursue graduate studies in engineering, mathematics and the sciences at Cambridge. The Scholarships also provide the opportunity to experience life in Britain, to forge friendships with British students and those from many other lands who are enrolled at Cambridge, to see something of Europe and lands beyond, to see the United States from a new perspective and to gain personal insights about oneself that come from living abroad and adjusting to new challenges.

UO Majors: Biochemistry / Biology / Environmental science / Human Physiology / General science / Geography / Geological sciences / Mathematics / Mathematics and computer science / Physics
Applicants for a Churchill Scholarship must be citizens of the United States and must be enrolled in one of the institutions participating in the scholarship competition. Upon taking up a Churchill Scholarship, one must be between the ages of 19 and 26, hold a bachelor's degree or its equivalent from a United States college or university, and may not have attained a doctorate.
The criteria for the selection of Churchill Scholars include the following: 1) Achievement in academic work as indicated by course grades; 2) Scores on the Graduate Record Examination; 3) Capacity for original, creative work as shown by special recognition and letters of reference; 4) Character, adaptability, demonstrated leadership, and concern for the critical problems of society; 5) Good health.

Information:
The University of Oregon faculty representative is Dietrich Belitz, Associate Dean College of Arts & Sciences. Information and application forms may be downloaded from the Churchill Foundation website. The deadline for completed applications to be submitted to the UO faculty representative is usually in late October.
Applicants must take both the general aptitude and one subject test of the Graduate Record Examination. They may take either the written or computer-based tests, and they should be certain to take them in time for the scores to be reported to the Churchill Foundation by early December.
The Churchill Foundation representative at each participating institution, with the advice of a faculty committee, may nominate two candidates.
